Collection: BLOCK OF THE MONTH

Welcome to Five Sisters Quilt Shop’s 2026 Skill Builder Block of the Month. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned quilter, these blocks are designed to help you sharpen your quilting skills. Need help with that quarter inch seam? Or Half-square triangles? Or do you keep losing your points? We’re here to help!

Each month’s block is free to download here on our website. The quilt pictured is using an Andover “Green Leaves” fat quarter bundle available at Five Sisters Quilt Shop, plus an additional 1 yard coordinating fabric for sashing and border. This Daisy Chain black on black fabric would coordinate beautifully.

I recommend using a “scant” ¼ inch seam when you sew. This allows for the fabric and thread thickness when your pieces are sewn together and then pressed.

To test for this:

· Cut 2 – 2 ½ inch squares from scrap fabric.

· Place a ruler with ¼ inch markings under your needle, moving this ¼ inch mark in toward your needle just a “tad”.

· Then mark this location with several layers of blue painter’s tape.

· Now sew your 2 scraps together, press with seams to one side.

· Your sewn blocks should measure 4 ½ inches across. Adjust your painter’s tape if necessary.

NOW LET’S GET STARTED ON YOUR FIRST BLOCK!
